Our Story
1987
The Woolhouse’s started farming
Grandpa and Grandma Woolhouse had a traditional farm growing combinable crops like wheat, alongside livestock including pigs and cows.
2014
S P Woolhouse and Sons Ltd. Formed
Stewart, Clare and their two sons, Michael and Thomas, grew combinable crops such as wheat, oilseed rape and sugar beet each year.
2015
M&T Haylage Developed
Local demand for premium hay and haylage was discovered and the M&T brand was born. We began growing 50 acres of grass to produce large, round bale hay and haylage for the equestrian market in South Yorkshire.
2016
We Expanded Our Produce
The demand for our premium grass products expanded and we tripled our produce to grow over 200 acres of specialist grass to produce large, square bale hay and haylage for our wider local community across the Yorkshire region.
2018
We Began Exporting and Grew Our Team
Growing 350 acres of specialist grass mixes to produce small and large square bale hay and haylage for both UK and export equestrian markets. With demand for our premium products growing, so did our team: to help support large bale production, deliveries and the reprocessing of our small, compact bales. We also received industry recognition, as our small bale products won the 2018 BETA International Innovation Award for Horse Feed and Supplements. See more of our awards and accreditations.
2019
We Gained Industry Accreditation
Growing 500 acres of specialist grass mixes, our M&T range gained product accreditation from BETA NOPS (Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances) and FEMAS (Feed Materials Assurance Scheme). These schemes ensure that we have full traceability of our products, from field to bale and that all of our products undergo industry standard testing procedures. These accreditations helped support us in supplying elite racing yards and sports professionals in the UK including Flat and National Hunt racehorse trainers. We also began welcoming sheep each winter to help graze excess grass and to maintain soil health.

We Invested in Sustainable Farming Technology and Practices
Growing over 600 acres of premium grass products, we invested in sustainable technology to offer a full range of consistently, high-quality hay and haylage products – all year round. Whilst making high-quality forage products, the environment in which we farm is equally as important to us. Mike, alongside our Conservation Manager Alex, are keen to create conservation areas across our farm to give wildlife a helping hand. Year on year, we introduce more hedgerows, wildflower meadows and wild bird feed cover to give back to the environment and to help it flourish.
